Si tratta di una riedizione di tre opuscoli del 1979, editi dal Women’s Institute, la più grande associazione femminile della Gran Bretagna (nel resto del mondo nota per ben altri motivi grazie al film Calendar Girls), impegnata tra l’altro nella promozione delle attività artistico-artigianali . Il libro raccoglie tre “lavori di campagna” legati tra loro, o meglio intrecciati: le bambole di paglia, la tessitura e la cesteria. Vista la l’intento divulgativo, la brevità e la data, non ci si può aspettare molto. Pesa molto la mancanza di foto, non compensata dai pochi disegni. Anche l’impaginazione approssimativa rende tutto ancora più vago… L’ho trovato anche linguisticamente poco chiaro, forse anche a causa della data (oltre alla mia poca frequenza con l’inglese).
It is a re-edition of three brochures from 1979, published by the Women’s Institute, the largest women’s association in Great Britain ((n the rest of the world known for quite other reasons thanks to the film Calendar Girls), engaged among other things in the promotion of artistic and craft activities. The book collects three “country crafts” linked together, or rather interweaved: straw dolls, weaving and basketry. Given the disclosure intent, the brevity and the date, we cannot expect much. The lack of photos weighs heavily, not compensated by the few drawings. Even the rough layout makes everything even more vague … I also found it linguistically unclear, perhaps also due to the date (in addition to my infrequency with English).
